U.S. Food Contact Materials Testing Services

Service Overview:

The United States is one of the key export markets for tableware, cookware, and related food contact articles from China. Under the regulatory framework of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), food contact substances are generally regulated based on their intended use and regulatory authorization status. For food contact substances that fall within the scope of food additive regulation, the basis for compliance generally includes the relevant food additive regulations under the Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR), Food Contact Notifications (FCNs), and other applicable exemption or authorization pathways. Parts 174 to 179 of 21 CFR cover the use requirements for various categories of indirect food additives in food contact materials, including adhesives, coatings, paper and paperboard, polymers, rubber articles, and related adjuvants. These regulations generally specify the identity of the substance, scope of use, conditions of use, or applicable limitations. For certain products such as ceramics and silver-plated hollowware, the FDA also regulates risks such as lead and cadmium through Compliance Policy Guides (CPG) and other related documents. Based on applicable FDA regulations, Compliance Policy Guides, and customer requirements, CTT provides compliance consulting and testing services for food contact materials, helping businesses identify applicable regulatory requirements, carry out testing and compliance assessment, and support market access to the United States.
